The Newborn Photography Session Experience
Why Newborn Photography?
Congratulations on expecting your precious newborn… or two… or three!!! This is such a wonderful time for you and I am so excited to be a part of your story. Newborn photography is my passion. I love everything about these precious angels. The sweet back wrinkles, perfect toes, little fingers, long eyelashes, tiny button noses, smoochable lips and swirls of hair are just so perfect and worth remembering. My studio in Quakertown is specifically designed with newborns in mind and is fully stocked with everything neccesary for a perfect session. I have so many newborn wraps, outfits, and props to stylize a session that is unique and custom to you. The studio is kept at the perfect temperature for your sweet little one and my blankets and wraps are washed between every baby. Coffee, snacks, and a comfortable couch (maybe for napping?) are available to you while I work with your baby. Have questions on how this all works? Scroll down and find out below!
Booking & Pre-session
The first few weeks of your baby’s life will feel like a blur. Countless feedings and diaper changes will fill your days and nights. One of the last things you’ll have time for is finding a photographer that is the right fit for you! Check it off your list now and take time to enjoy the early days. I recommend booking at least 6-8 weeks before your due date. Since babies arrive whenever they see fit, I book sessions based on due dates. Once your little one makes his or her arrival I’ll need you to contact me so we can choose the actual day for your session. Newborn photography is best 5-14 days after birth while your baby is still sleepy and poseable so it is important to let me know as soon as you can. Is your little one already past this age? No worries! I can’t always guarantee the same sleepy poses but we can still do a modified newborn session with more swaddled and possibly awake pictures. Is your due date coming up really soon or baby was just born? I do what I can to take last minute bookings but I can’t promise I’ll always have an opening. I am a mom myself and only take on a limited number of sessions each month. Send me a message and we’ll see what we can do!
I have a large assortment of backdrops, hats, headbands, outfits, wraps, and baskets to use. Once your newborn photography session is booked we’ll discuss your style and color preferences so I can style your session. Do you have an occupation, hobby, cultural item, or nursery theme you’d like to see in the session? Please let me know! I love creating fun and custom sets.
During the Session
A few days before your session I’ll send you a guide of tips and tricks to help things flow smoothly. Following these tips will set us up for a successful photo shoot. Each session is different due to the individuality of the baby but plan for the session to last up to 3 hours. This will give us plenty of time for feeding and soothing as baby sees fit. Poses take time to perfect and sometimes baby may fuss a bit before settling. Please know that I am trained in newborn safety and will never put your baby in danger.
I’ll keep the room toasty warm, just the way your little one likes it! Since baby is photographed mostly nude you can expect that some messes may occur. This is completely normal and I am prepared for it so don’t feel bad! All of the blankets and wraps used in the session will be washed whether they are soiled or not to keep everything clean and fresh.
After the Session
This is the REALLY fun part! About two weeks after the session we’ll meet again so I can show you the beautiful art of your baby. We’ll go through your pictures together and I’ll walk you through choosing your images, deciding where to hang a beautiful art gallery, or creating a custom album. There are so many beautiful ways to display your images and I can’t wait to show them to you!
Someone once asked me why the cost of photography is referred to as an investment instead of pricing. My answer is simple… because it IS an investment. One day when your little one is not so little anymore you’ll be able to look back on these photographs and remember the little details you’ve forgotten. Our babies grow and change SO fast in one long sleepless blur. The days are long but the years are short. Savor these times forever by capturing this precious baby stage with newborn photography! Albums and prints can be handed down to your children, grandchildren, and beyond. I know when I had my little ones I couldn’t wait to get my hands on pictures of my husband and I as babies to compare our children to. When you invest in a photographer, you are not only investing in photos for yourself, but for generations to come.
All sessions include a consultation to discuss your style and color preferences, a newborn session in my Quakertown studio, and a gallery reveal ordering appointment. Session fees range from $150-$200 depending on the type of session chosen. Prints, albums, art pieces, digital images, and packages are available. Collections begin at $250. In home sessions are also available. Please inquire for pricing.
